At La Jolla Cove further north, on the rocks at the western end of the cove, they are almost always there and you can view them from the sidewalk above the western end of the cove. They are lounging on the beach at the Children's Pool, but mainly just laying there sleeping. The seals and sea lions can almost always be seen in La Jolla. Any other night of the year it's uncrowded. But that area is extremely crowded with cars on July 4th. On July 4th they do a much bigger and much longer fireworks show starting at 9:30 p.m. They do a small show about 5 minutes long every night from approximately Memorial Day through Labor Day at about 9:45 p.m. That is also a good location to watch the Sea World fireworks show, which is actually fired from a small barge in Mission Bay just north of Sea World. There is a big parking lot and there is a small sandy beach at the east end, with a couple of fire pits. Locally it is known as simply "South Shores." You would also go east on Sea World Drive east of Sea World, but take the first left turn instead (South Shores Drive I think it's called). The island closes at a certain hour and I believe the closing time is posted at the little bridge you drive over to get on to the island.Īn easier spot to get to, also with a couple of fire pits, is Rose Marie Starns South Shores Park, which is part of Mission Bay Park, directly east of Sea World. If you go all the way around the island and stop at a point on the south end of the island, you will be in a good position to watch the short fireworks show Sea World puts on every night of the summer at about 9:45 p.m. There are plenty of locations all around the shoreline of the island where there are fire pits. "A San Diego tradition!" Go on Sea World Drive east of Sea World and turn left on East Mission Bay Drive, then turn left on Fiesta Island Drive, and drive around the island (it's a one-way road counterclockwise around the island). I would just see where you are for your sightseeing and choose a restaurant in that location.įor the fire pits you might want to go out to Fiesta Island in Mission Bay. The entire coast line has tons of beautiful views and more restaurants. The outdoor area known as Seaport Village has several low key places with views. It also overlooks the beach and the ocean.ĭowntown San Diego also has restaurants over looking San Diego Bay. In our Pacific Beach neighborhood there is a very low key restaurant with a wide menu called World Famous. They also serve dinner but I have not eaten there for that meal. IF you are at La Jolla Cove there are restaurants there like Brockton Villa which might be good for breakfast/brunch/lunch. There are lots of restaurants overlooking water!! You need to drive to La Jolla Cove which is a neighborhood at the northern edge of the city to see all this. It consists of a series of small rock enclosed(cove) beaches. There is a grassy park above them and there is a cement sidewalk that goes along side it where you can walk.
